Kordel Almost a year after the flood disaster in Kordel an der Kyll, reconstruction is progressing slowly.The consequences are still visible in many places.The previous kindergarten: empty.In the youth and community center: screed out.The station building: broken inside.The retirement home: uninhabited.The hairdresser: in the container.And shops: abandoned."People say to me: We live in a dead village," says Mayor Medard Roth (independent).Before the disaster, Kordel, with its 2,300 inhabitants in the Trier-Saarburg district, "was once a beautiful, well-functioning village".The village is not working again.And most of the people who lived in their homes again were still living with damage.In the flood disaster on 14./15.On July 1, 2021, after extreme rain, the Kyll had risen from 70 centimeters to a good six meters with a cord.225 houses were in the water - around 600 people were affected.The damage in the village is estimated at 50 to 60 million euros, says the mayor.The Kyll flood had also hit Trier-Ehrang hard below Kordel."We had almost 700 houses with about 4,500 people affected," says Mayor Bertrand Adams (CDU).So almost half of the approximately 9800 inhabitants.Many are not yet back in their homes.Also because damage often only became apparent afterwards."I just heard about a house where they have to take out the basement ceiling because it's full of oil." There's still a lot of work going on.But the problem is: "People can't get any craftsmen or materials."During the flood in July 2021, the Ahr Valley was particularly in focus with 134 deaths and damage in the billions.But places on the Kyll were also flooded - such as Kordel or Trier-Ehrang.
