The Bureau of Land Management announced new fire restrictions for public lands in Shasta, Siskiyou, Butte, Trinity and Tehama counties.

As of June 15, the BLM prohibits use of campfires and barbecues except in the Junction City, Steel Bridge and Douglas City campgrounds in Trinity County, and in the Shasta and Bohemotash campgrounds within the Chappie-Shasta Off-Highway Vehicle Area. 

Campfires also are prohibited in the Forks of Butte primitive campground in Butte County.

Portable stoves and lanterns that use gas, jellied petroleum or pressurized liquid fuel are allowed outside of these posted campgrounds and recreation sites with a valid California campfire permit, the BLM's Redding field office said.

New restrictions are in effect until further notice, the BLM said.

Free campfire permits are available online at bit.ly/3QOlkau and at BLM, Forest Service and California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection offices. Visitors should be extremely careful with campfire use, the BLM said.
