Q. Your column about Father's Day gifts appeared in my newspaper this morning and I was interested in the ChargeCard phone charger. I went to Amazon and looked at the verified buyer reviews, most of which were unenthusiastic at best. Many of the 5-star reviews were one or two words or very short sentences, often a sign of fake reviews. I look forward to seeing your unbiased review of this product.

Legal officials say ousted Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been transferred from a secret detention location to a prison in the country’s capital. They say her ongoing court cases will be tried at a new facility constructed in the prison compound. Suu Kyi was arrested last year when the army seized power from her elected government. For about the past year has been held at an undisclosed location in the capital generally assumed to be on a military base. She is being tried on multiple charges, including corruption. Suu Kyi’s supporters say the charges against her are politically motivated. She spent about 15 years in detention under a previous military government, virtually all under house arrest at her home in Yangon, the country’s biggest city.

A federal judge has sentenced a man who threw Molotov cocktails at police in Portland, Oregon, during mass protests to 10 years in prison. Prosecutors say Malik Fard Muhammad traveled from Indiana to Oregon and in September 2020 threw Molotov cocktails at police, broke windows in buildings, and ran from police with a loaded handgun. Assistant Federal Public Defender Fidel Cassino-DuCloux said Muhammad has been diagnosed with bipolar and post traumatic stress disorders and has been on medication since his federal arrest. Muhammad’s federal sentence will run concurrently with a 10-year sentence in state court for riot, attempted murder and other charges stemming from his actions at the racial injustice demonstrations.

Bayern Munich has signed Senegal forward Sadio Mané from Liverpool. The Bavarian powerhouse says the 30-year-old Mané has signed a contract through June 2025 with the club. Bayern chief executive Oliver Kahn says “we’re sure that Sadio Mané will delight our fans in the coming years with his spectacular style of play. He’s ambitious and eager to win more titles." Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp described Mané as a “modern-day icon” of the English club. The deal is worth up to 41 million euros ($42.9 million) with Liverpool receiving 32 million euros ($33.5 million) up front. His arrival will fuel speculation that Robert Lewandowski is set to leave Bayern.

A person with knowledge of the situation said Paul Maurice and the Florida Panthers were in the process Wednesday of finalizing a deal to make him the club's next coach. The Panthers plan to make the hiring official later this week. That's according to the person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the contract agreement has not been announced by either side. Maurice will replace Panthers interim coach Andrew Brunette. Maurice is fourth all-time in games coached and seventh all-time in coaching wins. He most recently was coach in Winnipeg and stepped down there in December.

Former Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum is facing 21 federal charges related to a scheme to seek donations and funnel a portion of them back to him through third parties. The U.S. attorney's office announced the indictment Wednesday. Gillum and co-defendant Janet Lettman-Hicks face 19 counts of wire fraud. Gillum is also charged with making false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It’s the latest trouble for Gillum, who narrowly lost to Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis in a race that required a recount. Gillum was the 2018 Democratic nominee for Florida governor.

A Detroit-area man who said he feared for his life when he fatally shot a young woman on his porch in 2013 has been sentenced to the same 17-year prison term he initially received. Ted Wafer was back in court Wednesday after the Michigan Supreme Court threw out his involuntary manslaughter conviction. Wafer was also convicted of murder in the death of Renisha McBride. The court said he couldn't be punished twice for one homicide. Judge Dana Hathaway says the prison sentence won’t change: 15 years for second-degree murder, plus two years for using a gun during a crime. The judge says the sentence still is within the scoring guidelines. Wafer says he remains “terribly sorry” for killing McBride.

Microsoft says “strategic espionage” by state-backed Russian hackers has targeted government agencies, think tanks, businesses and aid groups in 42 countries supporting Ukraine. Proposals to hold Pennsylvania’s presidential primaries in March rather than April and to permit poll watchers to operate outside the counties where they live are advancing in the Legislature. A divided House State Government Committee voted to send both bills to the full House. They've already passed the state Senate. Pennsylvania's primary during presidential election years would be moved from the fourth Tuesday in April to the third Tuesday in March.  The poll watchers’ bill would give candidates an additional observer and says they can be posted close enough to see any canvassing and precanvassing.

False imprisonment charges have been dismissed against a northeastern Wisconsin school superintendent accused of illegally detaining some students in a high school bathroom during searches for vaping devices. A judge in Oconto County on Tuesday said facts in the criminal complaint against Kelly Casper were insufficient to support the six counts of false imprisonment against her. Several dozen supporters in the courtroom gallery broke into applause when Hammer announced his decision. A prosecutor determined the searches were lawful, but filed the false imprisonment charges, saying the students were illegally confined during the searches in January.

ATLANTA — Stacey Abrams took a risk when she tried to shape the Democratic ticket by endorsing three statewide candidates in unpredictable runoffs. Her gamble paid off Tuesday with huge victories by the trio of contenders on her slate.

A diplomatic row at the bottom of the world is playing out between the normally allied U.S. and U.K. governments in response to provocations from Russia. The feud could lead to an import ban on Patagonian toothfish, also known as Chilean sea bass. U.S. officials insist it’s being caught unlawfully near Antarctica. Russia last year rejected toothfish catch limits proposed by the 26-member Commission on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources. The U.K. responded by issuing licenses to four British-flagged vessels to fish for the toothfish. U.S. officials say that move violates commission rules and it won’t allow the fish to be imported.

A U.S. House committee says Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder conducted a “shadow investigation” that sought to discredit former employees making accusations of workplace sexual harassment. The committee released a memo ahead of a hearing Wednesday. The memo says Snyder hired private investigators to intimidate witnesses and used an overseas lawsuit as a pretext to obtain their phone records and emails. The House Committee on Oversight and Reform is investigating the Commanders’ workplace culture following accusations of pervasive sexual harassment by team executives of women employees. Snyder declined to testify at the hearing. The team had no immediate comment on the committee's findings.
